Rift Fails To Blow My Mind

MMORPG's are very hard to get just right. They have to be immense, with many different game system working together to make it work right. It's very hard to do, especially for a company still getting its name out there. World of Warcraft set the bar years ago for what MMO's should be like. Rift has everything a good MMO should have (hotkeys, quests, factions, etc.) However, it's greatest flaw is that it's almost exactly like World of Warcraft. There are good things about it, though.

There are a few classes to chose from, but for this preview, I chose the rogue. Players unleash attacks, no matter the class, using a combo point mechanic. Your attacks can range from small to extremely powerful, depending on how many combo points are gathered. It makes fans of MMOs feel at home with the game.

Rift, like all other online games, has to be able to keep players playing for long periods of time. The game flows very well, but it sometimes feel like the game is doing the leveling up for you. In no time at all, I was a very high level and felt almost no sense of accomplishment in it. The games title Rift derives itself from six planes of reality seeping into the world, such as water, earth, fire, ice, life, and death. Regardless of which you chose to fight for, it helps add some playability to the game. However, I found myself ignoring them and doing the the side-quests. I found no reason it doing them.

The interface of Rift is very slick and responsive. Press a key and the action instantly happens. without any delay. However, I spent more time staring at my interface rather then the action on screen. Also, there is very little story. The only story I got from it was about the Rifts.

As you read above, you can gather that I didn't enjoy my time with Rift. The gameplay mechanics that were meant to change the MMO formula up was a cool concept, but somewhat failed in its execution. The game doesn't release until March 1st, but so far the beta is just average. Future game updates might change that.

Mind Blown

I just finished Dead Space 2.

“So pull up your skirt, and strap that dildo on!”

I still feel rather bad for what happened to my laptop. I start a blog and within a few weeks, my laptop goes to crap. I have played plenty of games over this little break so next week I’m hoping on talking about all of it.

One major thing did happen over this break, however.

I got a Playstation 3.

Infamous, Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet 2, Demon’s Souls, Resistance, Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5, and a crap ton of PSN games. It’s all so much fun. Infamous was a amazing game, and the second one (whose release date was announced today) is going to be damn near perfect. I tried Heavy Rain again, this time with the Move. So epic. I kinda fail at the Move, though. It’s way too precise for me. Demon’s Souls is kicking my ass right now, as well as Gran Turismo 5. Resistance? The first game sucked for me. I just couldn’t get into it. I’m going to start the second one soon and try that out because Resistance 3 looks to be one of the best shooters ever.

Did I mention that LittleBigPlanet 2 is adorable?

Speechless

Watch the greatest video game trailer I have ever seen. It will scare you, make you feel love, and cry all in three little minutes. I'm sitting here up late and I'm speechless.

I’m Such A Nice Boy

I’m sorry everyone! My laptop died at the end of November and just this past weekend I got it fixed. I have been playing games all throughout this little break so I’ll be reviewing, or at least talking bout them, very soon. I just need Valentines Day to come and go.

Hope to update the site with a better background and layout, and have posts a few times a week.

Stay tuned!
